We loved our stay at Riggs Cottageover Christmas. Perfect for our family holiday, decorated for Christmas, great space for everyone, well stocked kitchen and brilliant loction. The fire place and games barn were a real hit. 20/12/24
Perfect for a grown family get together. The cottage was very comfortable and very well equipped, blending quaint traditional aspects with modern conveniences. The location is rural and peaceful, giving a true feeling of being nestled in wonderful Lakeland, yet not far from amenities. The games barn was superb, allowing for endless fun and excitement. Top marks to the cottage owners, Riggs Cottage is outstanding. 08/11/24
Could not have picked a better property everything was perfect. 04/10/24
We have been coming to Riggs for 10 years now, this is our 7th visit. The continuous improvement keeps it up to date and very luxurious. Games room is fantastic. 22/08/24
This cottage was a great base for our multi-generation family holiday. The cottage was clean and well appointed with everything we needed for our stay. The games barn was great for family entertainment. The location was great for both local walks and visiting sites in the Northern, Western and Central Lake District areas. 05/07/24
Our family group of six adults had a lovely week's stay at Riggs Cottage. We were fortunate enough to have excellent weather for almost all of our stay, and used the BBQ twice. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable and the games barn was used at some time every day. The Pheasant Inn is walkable & some nice walks can be started from the cottage. Lots of choice for food shopping within ten minutes, upmarket Booth's in Keswick and Lidl, Aldi and Sainsbury's in Cockermouth. Would stay again. 21/06/24
Our second time staying here and we'd do it again! 03/05/24
We had a really lovely holiday at Riggs Cottage. The log fire was wonderful. The qua;ity of the cottage was outstanding. Love the slate and real wood furniture. Would love to come back again 29/03/24

Had a lovely stay at Riggs Cottage. Brilliant location surrounded by many lovely walks. We especially enjoyed the games room! Thank you for providing such a welcoming & charming place to stay. 13/10/23
Superb accommodation. Exceptionally clean. Felt at home the minute we walked in the cottage. We are a multi-generational family and Riggs Cottage catered for all of us. The whole family loved the games room. We would definitely recommend the cottage to anyone. Thank you. 26/09/23
Had an amazing week with family (6 adults) in this comfortable, stylish, well -appointed & -equipped home. Outdoor sitting areas with lovely tranquil feel, all very private. Large kitchen, useful utility & study & cosy lounge. Beautiful bedrooms with country views and comfortable beds. Great part of the Lakes: we walked thru woods to lake to swim, ate at the quaint Pheasant Inn, hired paddleboards on Derwentwater & completed several of the walks from the cottage detailed by the owners. Perfect! 01/09/23
Simply the best place to stay in the Lake District- especially if you have a family with teenagers as they love the games room! 28/07/23
First time we have stayed at this property. Fantastic property, fantastic location. Thank you for the walk suggestions - we did Sale Fell and then Ling Fell, Sale Fell & Lothwaite - great. The 'kids' did some great rock climbing and swims in the lake + paddle boarding. Also walked Helvellyn + Striding Edge, Catbells and other walks from Keswick. You provided all the facilities we could want & we had a great BBQ too. The games room was superb - thank you for a great holiday - we will be back. 30/06/23
We had a family holiday together at this cottage and had a very enjoyable time. It has a barn which is a games room, which was great for all of us to have fun together, playing pool, table tennis, and table football. The cottage itself was very well appointed and had everything you need. Very clean. The gardens/views are beautiful with plenty of seating. You definitely need transport to get anywhere from this location, but I think this is the case in the Lake District. 9/10. 27/05/23
We liked the cottage so much we returned for a second stay five weeks after our first visit! Having stayed at many cottages in the lake district over the years we found this to be way up there if not the best!! Everything was nigh on perfect-well perfection is so hard to achieve!!! 19/05/23
We have had a lovely four days in the Lakes. The house is very well equipped and extremely comfortable. Our teenagers have enjoyed the fantastic games room and we were impressed and delighted with the helpful guides to local walks. We had a wonderful brunch in the carriages of Bassenthwaite Lake station restaurant/cafe - really superb food and unique atmosphere. We hope to come back and stay in the future. 08/05/23
We have had a wonderful weekend in this house with great facilities. Walked up Sale and Ling fells with the helpful guide provided. Made use of tumble dryer after a day spent kayaking on Windemere in the rain yesterday! Thank you for a wonderful birthday weekend. 01/05/23

Thank you, this cottage was great, brilliant games room which the family enjoyed, the facilities were great and very comfortable. We will definitely stay here again when visiting family. 21/04/23
Thank you. We have all had a lovely week in this fabulous house.Enjoyed the garden, games room, and walking from the door on to the fells. We hope to return 14/04/23
Great stay, good central location to visit the seaside and the Lakes. The cottage had everything we needed. Games room was lots of fun. Great TV though we didnt really watch it. Comfy beds and hot showers, what more could you want. Would definitely recommend. 07/04/23
Wonderful location, very well furnished house with large rooms. We loved the spacious & well appointed kitchen. The games room was a blessing due to the rain for a couple of days, we enjoyed playing snooker, table tennis and table football. On the dry day we grilled our food on the kettle bbq. We loved the house and should have stayed longer. We will share this with our family and friends. We look forward to returning when we can. Many thanks!! 24/03/23
We had a lovely time at your wonderful cottage. The cottage is very well placed for visiting the north and west lakes and being semi-rural made for a very relaxing holiday. The games room was a bonus and brought out our competitive spirit. We would certainly recommend staying here. 17/03/23
Lovely property with excellent parking and games barn. I would highly recommend. 14/10/22
A lovely cottage in a beautiful position. There are many walks from the cottage that the owners have printed with coloured pictures to help with directions. The cottage is so well equipped with lovely china and glassware. Beds are comfortable. The games room is fantastic. With regards the area, the cottage is close to Cockermouth and its Sainsburys, Whinlatter Forest and Keswick. Book the pheasant Inn and places in cockermouth if you want to eat out. 26/08/22
Riggs Cottage was fantastic. Really comfortable and probably the best equipped cottage we have stayed at. Its a drive to most places but does have a lovely pub within walking distance. 15/05/22
Our 2 families had a great week here! The cottage was well equipped to give everyone space and all home comforts. It was so nice to be somewhere where we didn't have to drive every day, good local information on walks and the Pheasant Inn and Lakes Distillery both provided us with walkable places to visit. 01/04/22
Our 5th visit and it won't be our last! love this cottage so much will hopefully be back next year 19/11/21
Lovely, warm comfortable cottage. The heating never goes off so it's a great environment to dry wet walking clothes and boots. Luxurious main bathroom and the bothy is good to hide annoying relatives/teenagers that get cross when you beat them at pool and ping pong in the games barn. The steep drive down from the road is a bit nerve racking at the first attempt but you quickly get comfortable with it. No amenities within walking distance other than a pub and cafe but that was fine with us. All in all a fantastic place in which to isolate yourself in a beautiful autumn landscape. 12/11/21
Excellent family cottage with a brilliant games room, very well equipped. 22/10/21
A secluded haven offering modern facilities within a stunning period cottage. Riggs is a deceptively spacious home for whomever stays due to its layout providing multiple spaces to cook, sit, play, sleep, etc. The information packs provided inside the cottage cover every foreseeable question about the local area, attractions, activities, and the functioning of the cottage itself. A recent refurb (we also stayed here in 2018) updated the bathroom, kitchen, and heating making it even more comfortable. A perfect getaway for a large family or group of friends and brilliantly located for the less busy northern Lake District. Don't forget to check out the recently opened Bassenthwaite Lake Station café where you can see the replica steam locomotive of the Orient Express! 08/10/21
Great base for exploring the Northern lakes, very near to Bassenthwaite and Derwentwater. One tip; take an extension lead if using the 3rd bedroom due to limited sockets. Games room is a great bonus and a boon for home based activities on a rainy day. TV okay, but a bigger one might be prudent these days. Kitchen modern and well equipped and a great main bathroom. A great time and fantastic value for money! 01/10/21
Just had a great week at Riggs Cottage. Well kept, clean and stocked with all the utensils etc that you could hope for. Loved the games room and my elder son enjoyed studying in the small office. Excellent convenient maps and information at hand. We completed most of the walks. Great bottle of welcome wine. The addition of a Chimnea would be welcome outside for the colder times, just an idea. Great quality joinery on all the new doors! 15/09/21
All the rooms were of a generous size and nicely furnished. With young children the kitchen was the place to eat with it's easy to clean slate floor. Couple of nice easy hills from the door and only 25 min drive to Borrowdale. The Pheasant was closed for renovations and so there was no walkable pub when we stayed. The games barn was a total hit with all three generations. 13/08/21
Great place to stay 06/08/21
Lovely cottage in a quiet corner of the Lakes. We enjoyed the quirky layout and multi level garden. Very well equipped kitchen and the games room was great too. 30/07/21
Fantastic cottage in a lovely setting. We had amazing weather and enjoyed the garden and barbeque. The four bedrooms (including the bothy) were all of a good size and the kitchen was well equipped. The games room was lovely and cool as an escape from the heat, but would also have been useful if the weather had been more inclement. The cottage was in an area we didn't know well, and it was good to have a couple of new Wainwright's to climb - the walk up Sale Fell and Ling Fell was a delight. The information about the local walks was excellent - we wouldn't have found them so easily starting from scratch. The local nature reserve was unexpected, as was the train! If that is turned into a cafe as proposed that would be great as a walk from the cottage. Bassenthwaite Lake was within walking distance as well, and the Lakes Distillery. We also walked to Dodd Wood and Mirehouse (a lovely spot for children) from the cottage but have to admit to getting the bus back to Embleton. The Pheasant still closed and was being worked on when we were there, once that is open again it will be a local option for eating out. I hadn't realised when booking how steep the driveway down to the cottage was, you felt as though you had achieved something when you had walked up to the road! There is a helpful seat half way up, a lovely spot to watch for the osprey and other birds/wildlife. We had a close but brief view of a sparrowhawk from near there. There was plenty of parking and the gardens were lovely to relax in after a day out. We all thoroughly enjoyed out holiday and would definitely recommend Riggs Cottage. 23/07/21
Lovely cottage-beautiful countryside all around and very private. Cottage great, cosy lounge and good bedrooms. Pretty Bothy and cottage country garden with plenty of outdoor space. Fabulous kitchen, large, airy and clean and very impressed with all the equipment. Had some great games of snooker and table tennis in games barn - overall had a great week and would recommend. 18/06/21
Lovely cottage, great for families. 04/06/21
Perfect. Well equipped cottage with quality fixtures and fittings.
Great walks on the door step and only a few miles from amenities. 26/04/21
